Your sign’s standard mantra. And what you should start telling yourself instead

It’s a source of comfort for many of us to live life following the guidance of old and proven proverbs.

Those wise words are something to fall back on when life gets difficult and help us to make the right decision when tough choices arise.
We all have that one saying that makes the most sense to us and often end up repeating that one trusted saying so much that it becomes like a real mantra to us: a spiritual expression that can seemingly heal us from the inside out.

Everyone has a different saying that speaks to them, but you might be surprised to find that you subconsciously believe in a proverb that is common to your particular sign in Astrology.

Each of the twelve signs tends to have one motto that applies to them and fits in well with the way they see the world.

But even though these proverbs are seemingly the epitome of wisdom, sometimes the signs can take them a little too literally. They can end up doing damage in their lives and might need to adopt a new motto to help balance the old one out.

Read on to discover your sign’s standard mantra, and what you should start telling yourself instead!

virgo-1

Aries Mantra: “It’s Either All Or Nothing”
Aries is one of the more intense signs, and for you, when it rains it definitely pours. In other words, it’s either all or nothing.

That can be a good motto to follow at times because it encourages you to put effort into everything that you do, and your life is often filled with many passion-filled moments because of it.

But it doesn’t have to be that way all the time. Even if you can’t give someone all of your effort, you can still give them some of it. You’re not superwoman. Sometimes, you can only do what you can do.

Replace It With: “Revenge Is A Dish Best Served Cold”
The one proverb you should definitely start living by is “revenge is a dish best served cold.” In plainer terms, wait until you’re thinking rationally again before you decide to punish people for what they’ve done. An explosive temper is part of you, and if you allow it to control your decisions, you’ll end up saying a lot of things you don’t mean and hurting people you don’t want to hurt. As fiery as you can be, your heart is bigger and you don’t really get joy out of causing damage like that. You’re the queen of forgiveness, so remember to wait a minute before you unleash that anger.

Leo Mantra: “Attack Is The Best Form Of Defense”
As a Leo, your reputation is very important to you. You’ll always protect your image and make sure you’re coming across in a positive way to other people. That usually results in people thinking you’re cool, collected, and super smooth.

If your reputation is on the line, you have a habit of diverting attention away from yourself by going for others instead.

You can sense when someone is going to try and put you down, so you make sure they don’t even get the chance by attacking them first. It’s a good way to protect your emotions but can leave others feeling just a little intimidated.

Replace It With: “All That Glitters Is Not Gold”
In the age of social media, we all get caught up in the lives of others and can become jealous as we scroll through their seemingly perfect existences. Out of all the signs, this tends to affect you the most. Being a social person, you love to look at what other people are up to, but you sometimes fall for the trick of believing that their lifestyles are really as perfect as they’re made out to be and that leaves you feeling insecure.

In these moments, remember that all that glitters is not gold. Just because something looks one way, it doesn’t mean that’s the reality.

Sagittarius Mantra: “One Of These Days Is None Of These Days”
Sagittarius is an easy-going sign for the most part, but being a fire sign, there are impulsive parts of your personality that love to come out. You don’t like to think things through and take the time to plan them out, and instead say to yourself, “One of these days is none of these days.”

Rather than waiting for the right time, you like to do things right this second, as soon as they pop into your head.

You’re quite right in seeing the danger of always putting things off until tomorrow, but that doesn’t mean you have to rush everything. Try to find the balance instead.

Replace It With: “Hope For The Best; Prepare For The Worst”
You are the most optimistic and positive sign, and we love you for that. It’s much easier to be negative than positive, so nurture this gift. That said, there’s a difference between having a positive outlook and being totally naïve. To make sure you’re not caught off-guard, it’s best to think in a more balanced way. Have all the positive thoughts you like and by all means, hope for the best. But at the same time, prepare for the worst. Don’t expect things to go pear-shaped since that’s not your style, but just have a plan in place in case they do.

Taurus Mantra: “If It Ain’t Broke, Don’t Fix It”
Taurus prides herself on being one of the friendliest and most pleasant signs in Astrology. You’re an easy-to-please gal and aren’t high maintenance at all. Being friends with you is easy because you like everything in your life to be simple and free of drama.

Where you can, you avoid conflict, and once you’re settled into a routine you like to stay there.

Very much so, you believe that if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. This is good advice some of the time, but if you’re never making changes that might be difficult or uncomfortable, you’re never really growing.

Replace It With: “Negotiation Is Preferable To Confrontation”
You don’t seek out confrontation like some signs do, but because you are quite set in your ways, conflict can arise when people try to challenge you. They don’t call you one of the stubbornest signs for nothing! When it does come to seeing things from a different point of view, you can be a little closed-minded and would often rather have an argument than be persuaded. If you can rise above that resistance, try out the saying “negotiation is preferable to confrontation” and see how it goes. Don’t immediately shut people down—listen to other points of view, and let them convince you to try something new.

Virgo Mantra: “Failure Is Not An Option”
Nobody enjoys failing, but some signs have less tolerance for mistakes than others. As a Virgo, you naturally have a hard time accepting that you’re a human, not a superhero, and will mess it up upon occasion.

“Failure is not an option” is just one of the aspirations you chant to yourself to help you succeed in life.

And honestly, you’re probably more likely to succeed than others who are less disciplined. But this isn’t a great motto to have because (and please don’t hate the messenger) you will fail at some point. Holding yourself to these high standards will just leave room for disappointment.

Replace It With: “Man Learns Little From Success, But Much From Failure”
It’s time you start seeing failure not as a scary black hole of doom that must be avoided at all costs but as an opportunity to grow. Any successful person will tell you that failure is actually part of the path to success because it makes you aware of your mistakes and shows you where you need improvement. Really, how can you learn how to do something if you don’t know how not to do it? “Man (or woman) learns little from success, but much from failure” is a motto you should take on board right now!

Capricorn Mantra: “You Must Lie In The Bed You Make”
The one thing that people love most about Capricorn is her loyalty. Once you make a commitment, you see it through regardless of how many sacrifices you must make to do that. You are super reliable and trustworthy and are probably one of the most disciplined signs in Astrology.

People have a lot of respect for you because you live by the proverb “you must lie in the bed you make,” but sometimes, it’s really hard on you.

It’s admirable that you honor your promises, but remember that you’re not a robot and you can reverse out of decisions that are bad for your well-being.

Replace It With: “All Work And No Play Makes Jack A Dull Boy”
You’ve definitely heard of this saying before, but you might not have realized that it applies to you. Whether you’re working or at school, you are a natural workaholic. There’s nothing wrong with being focused and dedicated because those traits are going to help you bring your dreams to fruition one day. Just remember to keep your life balanced. It’s not so much that working all the time makes you dull for other people around, but you should look after yourself and make sure you’re happy, in addition to being disciplined! Success doesn’t mean anything if you’re miserable.

Gemini Mantra: “It’s Better To Wear Out Than Rust Out”
Strictly speaking, this old proverb refers to working hard until your very last day on earth rather than being idle and bored just because you’re in your older years. As a Gemini, you would certainly prefer to be kept busy as you age, but you use this motto to apply to your current life as well.

You’d rather be doing things and make a difference than sitting around doing nothing and it’s this energy that makes you so loveable!

There’s nothing wrong with hard work, but especially when your body can’t keep up with you anymore, there’s also nothing wrong with having a rest.

Replace It With: “The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side Of The Fence”
Being a Gemini, you can suffer from FOMO or fear of missing out. You’re so passionate about life that you want to be involved in just about everything—every day for you is like being in a candy store. The thing is though, nobody (not even you!) can keep up with everybody and everything. You can get upset when you see other people doing things you want to be part of, so you just have to remember that the grass always seems greener on the other side of the fence. When you want what somebody else has, remember to focus back on all the blessings you already have and enjoy them.

Libra Mantra: “Patience Is A Virtue”
Libra is the direct opposite of other signs in that you are openly opposed to rushing. Balanced, analytical thinking is one of your strongest points and you like to plan out absolutely everything you say and do very carefully before you carry it out. People can sometimes get frustrated with you for this or even call you a procrastinator.

The good news is that by following this mantra, you never make silly mistakes.

The bad news, though, is that sometimes you can wait too long for things and totally miss the boat. Patience is a virtue, but there has to be a limit!

Replace It With: “A Friend To Everybody Is A Friend To Nobody”
You really don’t enjoy conflict or having enemies, which means that your life is often very peaceful. People come to you for advice because you have an amazing ability to see all sides of an argument and hand out totally objective advice. The downside to this is that you’re sometimes seen as a bit of a fence sitter. On one hand, it’s good to be fair to everyone and be an objective Switzerland-like judge. On the other hand, they say that a friend to everybody is a friend to nobody. Those closest to you would probably love to have more of your support rather than seeing you always on that fence.

Aquarius Mantra: “You Can’t Lose What You Never Had”
If you’re an Aquarius, you’ve probably been labeled as “emotionally distant” in the past. You can be reluctant to open up to people because you know that’s one way of getting hurt.

You think with your head over your heart and don’t like to get emotionally invested in too many things because if you have something close to you, it can be taken away.

Basically, you’re very good at protecting yourself. But if you live a life of always keeping people and things at a distance because you’re terrified of getting hurt, you’re missing out on so much! You might lose someone you let in, but you also might keep them.

Replace It With: “No Man Is An Island”
By telling yourself that no man is an island, or no woman is an island, you’re reminding yourself that we all need other people to keep us afloat. You tend to be a lone wolf, which is pretty admirable and will never fall into the trap of totally relying on another person for your own happiness or survival. But you can still be that independent person while at the same time letting people into your life. Let people help you when they offer and accept people’s invitations when they make an effort. Those relationships will come in handy at some point so it’s wise to nurture them.

Cancer Mantra: “Love Sees No Faults”
Cancer, your attitude toward love is just what this jaded world needs! You are one of the few souls who still believe in true love and is having none of this modern concept of romance filled with side chicks and dudes and raunchy snaps instead of long phone calls.

When you find that soulmate, it changes your world.

The kind of love that you have for your partner sees no faults, which is sweet and remarkable. You accept them just as they are. The only warning we have would be to not turn a blind eye to unacceptable behavior, just because your vision is clouded by love.

Replace It With: “Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fonder”
Because your relationship means so much to you, you naturally want to be around your significant other as much as possible. We won’t use the word “clingy,” but your partner can sometimes feel a little weighed down by all the love you have to give and crave a bit of a break. Remember that absence really does make the heart grow fonder and time apart might actually be good for your relationship. Not only will it help you to appreciate your significant other more, but it will also help you to be a little more independent and self-sufficient.

Scorpio Mantra: “All’s Fair In Love And War”
As a Scorpio, you do both love and war very well. Put simply, you get so emotionally invested in everything you do that when it comes to the really passionate areas of your life, you are a true force to be reckoned with.

You tend to follow the motto “all’s fair in love and war” which basically means that there are no rules to follow when it comes to these situations.

That might work for you, but the truth is it probably doesn’t work for the people in your life every single time. There have to be some limits and some ground rules!

Replace It With: “Two Wrongs Don’t Make A Right”
When somebody wrongs a Scorpio, they always end up regretting it. Nobody does revenge like you. Though you have a temper, you also have a tendency to hold grudges, so the saying “revenge is a dish best served cold” doesn’t make much of a difference for you—you still want revenge, even after you’ve cooled off! Instead, remember the phrase “two wrongs don’t make a right” when you’re feeling angry. You can get that person back, but it’s not necessarily the right thing to do. In the end, you’ll probably do more damage than you anticipated. It’s better to be the bigger person!

Pisces Mantra: “Good Things Come To Those That Wait”
Some signs are camp “let’s rush everything” and some signs are camp “let’s wait as long as we possibly can before making a move.” As a Pisces, you are definitely part of the latter!

It’s not so much that you like to plan things excessively, but it takes you a while to feel the push you need to get going.

So your mantra is usually something like “good things come to those that wait.” While it’s true that being patient is beneficial in many situations, it’s also true that if you don’t take control of your own life, you’ll never get anywhere. Sometimes it’s good to wait, and other times, it’s better to seek.

Replace It With: “Don’t Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today”
Rather than waiting for everything to come to you, adopt this new proverb: “don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” Basically, if there’s something you can do to get yourself closer to where you want to be, do it. There won’t always be something you can do—sometimes, you really do have to wait until tomorrow. We’re not saying to rush things for the sake of it! But there will definitely be times where you will be able to take action today, and doing that will push you further along toward achieving your aspirations.
