1. I Am That: Talks with Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

One of the most profound books ever written; it's difficult to guess how you'll perceive it. It will challenge your rational thinking, but it's not about being religious or not religious. I Am That is a collection of the timeless teachings of one of the greatest sages of India, Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj, and a testament to the uniqueness of the seer's life and work and is regarded by many as a "modern spiritual classic."

I Am That preserves Maharaj's dialogues with followers from around the world seeking his guidance in destroying false identities. The sage's sole concern was with human suffering and the ending of suffering. It was his mission to guide the individual to an understanding of his true nature and the timelessness of being. He taught that the mind must recognize and penetrate its state of being, "being this or that, here or that, then or now," but just a timeless being. Source: From the Introduction to the book.

About Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj:

Any attempt to write a biographical note on such a man is frivolous and futile. He is not a man with a past or future; he is the living present -- eternal and immutable. He is the self that has become all things. Not only is the exact date of his birth unknown, but no verified facts concerning the early years of his life are available. However, some of his elderly relatives and friends say that he was born in March 1897 on a full moon day, which coincided with the festival of Hanuman Jayanti, when Hindus pay their homage to Hanuman, also named Maruti, the monkey-god of Ramayana fame.

3. The Bhagavad Gita

Part of the ancient Hindu epic The Mahabharata, The Bhagavad Gita is one of the enduring religious texts of the world. It has had a powerful and lasting influence on Western writers, thinkers, and yogis.

The Gita is the sixth book of the Mahabharata, one of India's most famous epic poems.
It's unclear exactly when the Gita was composed—estimates vary widely, but several scholars suggest it was completed around 200 CE and inserted into the larger work; many see it as the first fully realized yogic scripture. Curious though it may seem that such an ancient text from a foreign culture has been so enthusiastically received by Westerners, the Gita, like all truly great works of literature, can be read on many levels: metaphysical, moral, spiritual, and practical; hence its appeal.

The Bhagavad Gita is an early poem that recounts the conversation between Arjuna, the warrior, and his charioteer Krishna, a manifestation of God. In the moments before a great battle, Krishna sets out the important lessons Arjuna must learn to understand his role in the war he is about to fight. Krishna reveals his true cosmic form to Arjuna and counsels the warrior to act according to his sacred obligations. Ranging from instructions on yoga to moral discussion, the Gita has served for centuries as an everyday, practical guide to living well.

A Course in Miracles is a complete self-study spiritual thought system. The Course thus focuses on healing relationships and making them holy. A Course in Miracles also emphasizes that it is but one version of the universal curriculum, of which there are "many thousands." Consequently, even though the language of the Course is that of traditional Christianity, it expresses a non-sectarian, non-denominational spirituality. 6. Thao Te Ching  by Lao Tzu

The mysterious Laozi's ancient wisdom may be hard to translate, but the meaning is clear – learning to be self-aware could improve modern life.

Written more than two thousand years ago, the Tao Te Ching, or -The Classic of the Way and Its Virtue, - is one of the true classics of the world of spiritual literature.

Traditionally attributed to the legendary -Old Master, - Lao Tzu, the Tao Te Ching teaches that the qualities of the enlightened sage or ideal ruler are identical to those of the perfected individual. Today, Lao Tzu's words are as useful in mastering the arts of leadership in business and politics as they are in developing a sense of balance and harmony in everyday life. Two thousand four hundred years after it was composed, we need the Tao Te Ching's lessons in self-awareness more than ever. To follow the Tao or Way of all things and realize their true nature is to embody humility, spontaneity, and generosity.

Little can be said with absolute certainty about the origins of the Tao Te Ching. Consensus suggests it was written around 400BC by one Laozi. Laozi translates simply as "old master" – a hint that the author's (or authors') true name has been lost forever.

Tao Te Ching translates very roughly as "the way of integrity". In its 81 verses, it delivers a treatise on how to live in the world with goodness and integrity: an important kind of wisdom in a world where many people believe such a thing to be impossible.

9 The Life Divine by Sri Aurobindo

New Age author and Mother’s Service Society researcher Roy Posner presents a chapter-by-chapter analysis of Sri Aurobindo's metaphysical treatise The Life Divine, perhaps the most profound book ever written on the nature of spirit, life, creation, evolution, and human potential.
(From the Introduction to the book by Roy Posner)

An Extraordinary Vision of the Future In one sense, Sri Aurobindo is the most radical of radicals.

He begins with the extraordinary assertion that humans might not be the ultimate form of life to emerge on earth. We are likely to witness the emergence of a new type of individual emerging from out of the current (transitional) human form. Besides, this new being will live his life from a spiritual poise and perspective -- enabling the infinite powers of the Divine consciousness to enter his being, which would, in turn, transform his nature, release his infinite potential, and give new meaning and purpose to life in the cosmos.

Sri Aurobindo suggests that we can begin to live this life by centering our consciousness in a deeper poise within -- instead of living on the surface of things, where we perceive existence in ignorance, division, contradiction, suffering, and pain.

From this “witness consciousness,” we perceive our life with greater clarity and insight; are more in touch with the multiplicity of truths unfolding around us; experience greater harmony and oneness with others; and are generally more aware and conscious of who we are, and what purpose we serve in the world.

This inner-based poise of self-awareness and self-consciousness is just the starting point for an even greater change: the evolution and transformation of our being through contact with the spiritual dimension of life.

In The Life Divine, Sri Aurobindo explains that there are two primary means by which we connect and are transformed by the Spirit. First, he informs us that in the depths of our being, there is a True Self and Spirit- an evolving Soul that he calls the "Psychic Being"- the primary lever and means of our evolutionary change.

By connecting to our Evolving Soul, we perceive our ultimate purpose in life, open to the vast array of spiritual insights, forces, and powers in the universe; feel a sense of oneness with everything and all around us; and as a result, experience ultimate joy and delight in being alive. Second, he reveals that around us there is also a descending spiritual Force -- a Supramental truth consciousness -- that we can open to, viii allowing Its infinite truth power to enter our being and uplift, perfect, and transform it. It turns out that this supramental truth consciousness is not only the descending spiritual power that can hasten our progress, evolution, and transformation, but it is, in fact, the very force and power that enabled the universe to emerge from a Divine Source.

As we take up the call to discover our higher nature; as we come in touch with our evolving soul; as we open and surrender to the descending supramental power, we begin to make the decisive evolutionary and transformational change. This reversal of consciousness transmutes our old nature into a new supernature. Not only are our mental, vital, and physical parts uplifted and our capacities dramatically enhanced, but we also feel a deep connection and oneness with the world around us. Besides, we begin to feel a profound connection with the cosmic and transcendent spiritual reality, which helps us perceive life's true purpose and our own purpose as instruments of the Higher Power.

Finally, out of all of these inner and outer experiences, we feel a deep and abiding Joy and Delight in being alive.

As individuals make this decisive change in their nature, as they infuse all parts of their being with this higher consciousness, there then gradually emerges a new type of Person -- a Gnostic, Supramental being, whose existence is organized around the power of the Spirit. As a number of such individuals make this decisive change, a new human social existence begins to emerge, culminating in a Divine Life on earth. This is the powerful vision that Sri Aurobindo has offered the world.

This is the revelation of a future existence for the individual and the society that he has captured so eloquently in his metaphysical treatise The Life Divine.

11. Changing the Lifetime of our Destiny by Ramtha

"When are you going to make a decision not to be confused? And when are you going to make a decision not to be ill? And when are you going to make a decision to be a genius? When are you going to make the decision that you don't have to struggle anymore? And when are you going to finally realize that all of the worries in the world will never prevent what you have made a choice into being because it is you who are the ones that set it into motion? Worry: Why would you worry about something that, in a moment, you could correct with your mind? How much longer do your manifestations of wealth and health, and God-realized, and immortality, a mind not only beautiful but filled with wit and honor and fearlessness, how many more days are you going to postpone those in your life?"

Ramtha, the Enlightened One was a Lemurian warrior who fought the Atlanteans over 35,000 years ago.

Nowadays, it is claimed he appears to author J.Z. Knight. Ramtha was originally from Lemuria. Some people have referred to him as a Neanderthal or Cro-Magnon due to the time period. In Ramtha’s cosmology, he states that mankind has been in existence much longer than the view held by conventional science. Ramtha says mankind is millions of years old and that very advanced civilizations coexisted with lesser ones. Without entering into the debate about lost civilizations or anthropological findings, it is important to note that the conventional view is increasingly being challenged. It has recently been discovered that mankind used tools as early as two million years ago.

The important element that is usually omitted from reports on Ramtha is that he is a human being who attained enlightenment like Siddhartha Gautama, who became the Buddha.

‘Nothing more than being in the pristine state. That is all that need be said,’ declared Sri Ramana. 13. Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramahansa Yogananda

A first-hand account of the life experiences of Paramhansa Yogananda, a spiritual master, this book has sold millions of copies and is beloved around the world by those interested in yoga and spirituality.

A book about masters of yoga and saints, written by someone who was himself a master of yoga and a saint. This is an unusual and unique book.

Autobiography of a Yogi talks about miracles, the yogic teachings, and the teachings of Jesus Christ in a modern way — a way that is easy to understand and even entertaining. For someone interested in spirituality, or even just alternate ways of looking at life, it’s incredibly illuminating.

The world is different than it would have been without this book. The New Age movement in the West, the book's impact on leaders in many fields, and the rise in the practice of yoga and meditation are largely due to Yogananda’s influence and the influence of his autobiography.

Philip Goldberg wrote in American Veda, "Among the people I interviewed about their key spiritual influences, a high percentage named a book, and by far the book most often mentioned was Yogananda’s unique memoir. A distant second was Be Here Now by Ram Dass, and he mentioned the Autobiography.”

Sometimes people read it and have their life turned around entirely. It’s a book that, like other scripture, inspires life-long devotion.

Anyone interested should read it. It is a great book in every sense of the word.

14. The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles

This book was first published in 1910. It is based on the Hindu philosophies that One is All and that All is One. According to USA Today, the text is "divided into 17 short, straight-to-the-point chapters that explain how to overcome mental barriers, and how creation, rather than competition, is the hidden key to wealth attraction." (source: wikipedia)

From the introduction written by Rhonda Byrne:
“This book is the key to prosperity you have longed for. It will change your life. As you read it, be aware that it was written almost 100 years ago. The language is a little dated (or quaint) and you’ll need to come to it with an open mind and heart. Remember, though, you are about to discover an exciting new reality: you are about to learn the fundamental principles of wealth creation and life success."

From the Foreword written by Cherie Mosher:

As a Licensed therapist, I would recommend it be given out at all the maternity wards, be a blessing to others by giving it as a gift, placed in every Christmas stocking, and given as the Afikomen gift with chocolates. You may ask why. Yet, as I say to many of my clients who look to me for answers, validation, and the Truth, “The heart and soul always know the Truth.”

After reading the last page of We Are Human Angels, you will have a divine moment of stillness to reflect on all you read.

In that divine stillness, many of you will feel an inner peace for the first time, an inner peace you have searched for all of your life. Part of that inner peace will be because your heart and soul will know it read the Truth, a Truth you know you were born with. “You are a human angel.” Unlike history that continues to repeat itself, you will know that you no longer need to repeat the patterns in your life that have made you feel stuck, lost, hurt, deprived, alone, short-changed, or that you bear the heavy burdens you have endured. With the book We Are Human Angels, many will awaken and be enlightened to what the heart and soul know to be the Truth.
